Swamp to the City (Day 9 and 10) Rocky Mountains, New Mexico

After I passed a portion of the Rockies I came upon a long stretch of desert where the US Gov. has a missle test field and an Air Force base. Soon after that were more mountains, and as I got off the main road I discovered a small winding road that went about 4 miles up the side to an amazing spot where I stayed for the night. Here's a video to what I've recently been listening to. Enjoy.

Swamp to the City (Day 8) Roswell, New Mexico

I arrived in the City of Roswell at night and left the next morning, so I wasn't there long but here are a few photos in and around Roswell. Just to give you an idea of the area, some lady at a gas station said that she mistakened me for Elvis when I walked in. Now, I don't know how often Elvis Presley has visited that area or that particular gas station but I'm pretty sure that the rest of America thinks he's dead.

Swamp to the City (Days 4,5,6) Dallas

The past three days in Dallas have really been one big holiday. I survived Dallas traffic, almost got abducted by a spaceship (pictured above), skated at one of the largest skateparks in the Dallas area and attended another amazing My Morning Jacket show at the Palladium Ballroom. Just when you think you've reached the epic peak of the concert going experience you step on a land mine and it blows you to stellar heights.

As they played the early moments of their encore performance they went into a cover of Erykah Badu's "Tyrone" and by the second verse a shadow emerged from the side stage with hair three times the size of a beach ball and that's when the crowd just lost it in disbelief. Not disbelief that Erykah Badu was on stage but because at that point it was hard to believe there was anything that could make this experience even better than it already was.

Swamp to the City (Day 3) Austin City Limits

I Arrived in Austin, Texas today. Had a beer at 6th street's Coyote Ugly, not because I enjoy the atmosphere but because there were 6 other motorcycles parked out front and thought that my cargo should be safe. Of the 6 other bikes, 5 were Harleys and 1 was a flat-black Honda dual-sport with spikes on the front/rear fenders and a painting of a treasure map on the gas tank. I tried not to stand out.
It seems everyone here has some sort of tattoo, and everyone here has there own opinion of where to go to have a good time or see a good show. So I called a couple of friends and Nick said I should go see Vanessa Lively play at MoMo's. It was a little past 7:00 when I got there and I was one of five people including Vanessa and the guy at the door. She played alot of originals and covered a few songs including Bob Dylan's "Man in the long black coat" and Gillian Welch's "One More Dollar".
I soon decided I was hungry, so I rode around till I found a place I liked. When I arrived to where I would soon consume my evening nourishment of Raw fish and rice, my old friend Charles calls and say's that if I ride up to Dallas (3.5 hours north east of Austin) he'll buy me a ticket to see My Morning Jacket on Saturday night.

Swamp to the City (Day 2) Houston

Finally made it to Houston today. The photos above are of a scene that I witnessed at a picnic/rest stop area as I was making my way into Texas from Louisiana. All this was taking place along the side of Interstate 10 where it had flooded. Don't mess with 'em.

Swamp to the City (Day 1) Baton Rouge

After almost 4 hours of driving in the rain, I made a stop in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where I met Mikey (pictured above with the hat) drinking a 40 ounce at a truckstop where I was taking a break from the strong downpour. I soon ended up at his Granpappy's across the street behind a Wendys, where we destroyed some of the Bayou's greenest. He got a little emotional as he said a prayer for my ride ahead, then he asked me for a couple bucks. I gave him the wet ten dollar bill I found earlier at the truckstop.
